Course Objectives

Educational Objectives
The PhD program in Psychology provides scientific training in experimental and applied research in the following areas: (i) experimental psychology and neuroscience, (ii) developmental psychology and psychopathology, (iii) work and organizational psychology, and (iv) clinical psychology.
The educational project aims to develop expertise in qualitative/quantitative methodologies for the design and analysis of experimental, observational, and quasi-experimental studies in psychology, cognitive science, psychiatry, and neuroscience. These studies include the identification of environmental risk factors predisposing to mental illness, the evaluation of the effectiveness of therapeutic treatments, community trials and prevention and health education interventions, and the exploration of cognitive processes and complex behaviours using different methodologies, including morphological and functional neuroimaging and neuromodulation techniques such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS).
The PhD program adopts a multidisciplinary approach and offers training within an internationally competitive environment, encompassing theoretical, observational, and experimental research as well as applied/translational research aimed at the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The course provides a solid foundation in research methodology and statistical analysis applied to psychology and the applied biomedical sciences.

The objectives of the program are:
– Training in experimental and applied research in psychological and neuropsychological fields (experimental psychology and neuroscience, developmental psychology and psychopathology, work and organizational psychology, and clinical psychology) as well as in applied biomedical sciences.
– Teaching of qualitative–quantitative methods for the design and analysis of experimental, observational, and quasi-experimental studies aimed at exploring cognitive processes and behaviours using advanced techniques in psychology and applied biomedical sciences.
